Well, it's my birthday today, so let me encourage you to buy yourself something. More particularly, let me encourage you to buy yourself a book. Even more particularly, let me encourage you to buy yourself a book from any one of the many fine small presses out there. Really, it's your choice: buy any book you want, so long as it's from a small press. Small presses need our support, financial and otherwise--they're vital to contemporary literature, taking risks that the bigger publishing houses won't take, and helping new voices be heard. And often, they just make really nice books.
Of course, you could pick up a copy of my new chapbook from Greying Ghost Press. (Sorry, I couldn't resist the plug. Please forgive me: it's my birthday, after all.) But you could also check out the other titles available there. Or, if you've got a bit of time to look at some options, you might check out Small Press Distribution or Press Press Press.
Addendum: I really, really hope you'll buy something from a small press. But if you don't buy a book from a small press, at the very least, buy yourself a good book today. Get yourself a good copy of Homer or something. (No, not that Homer. I mean The Odyssey or The Iliad.)I'm serious. Stop reading Dan Brown and all of that schlock, and read something good.
