I have been buried under a mountain of grading. The end is not quite in sight, but I'm trying to tell myself it is.

I lost my favorite pen the other day. It's nothing fancy: a blue Waterman Phileas that I bought specifically because it wasn't particularly expensive for an everyday fountain pen. At the time, I thought it wouldn't matter much if I lost it, since it didn't cost that much. But after using it for the better part of a decade, I rather miss it.

I locked myself away last night and made most of the final decisions about pieces for the fall issue of Willows Wept Review. Some tough decisions, but I'm very excited about the work we're going to be able to include in this upcoming issue.

Class officer elections can be ridiculous. Have you seen those movies about how ridiculous high school elections can become? They're not far from truth.
Unfortunately.

I wish that I could say that "real-world" elections were less ridiculous.
However, I don't want to lie to you.

If you haven't checked out Vouched Books, please do. I'm contributing over there.

I was not surprised when I discovered that the journal referred to in #7 has the following distinction over at Duotrope's Digest:
This market ranks among the 25 Most Slothful Poetry Markets.

Much of what I've been writing lately includes these statements:
- You must support your claims with quoted evidence from the text.
- Begin your paragraph with this idea.
- Combine these ideas to form a single sentence.
- You use many phrases from the text, but you do not demonstrate your understanding of them.

The pen I lost? I found it. It's frustrating and wonderful the way that you find things sometimes just as soon as you stop looking for them.

I had a pretty great run today.

This made me laugh out loud, thank you Urks. It seems funny to me that you have a blog, and I didn't find it until now! I read some of your work and liked them, even though they make me feel like a literate failure... see you in first period!
