Five Things on a Thursday That Feels like Friday

1.
I woke up this morning to an email from an editor with good news. That's always a nice way to start the day.

2.
While taking a vocabulary quiz today,

Student #1:
These words suck.
Me:
I'm pretty sure it's your understanding of the words. Not the words.
Student #2:
Oh, he just made an educated diss.
3.
Dear students,

While I am reading your essays about Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself," I will automatically assign a grade of 'F' to any essay that includes either of the following phrases:
  • "circle of life"
  • "Lion King"

I am not even kidding. As soon as I hear Elton John and Tim Rice in the background, you're done.

4.
Look, there aren't going to be five things, so you should just stop reading now. I put "five things" in the title to try to motivate myself to write five things, but I just finished teaching a half day of classes (which is really nearly as much effort as teaching a full day of classes), and then I had a few meetings, and now I'm pretty tired. So that's all you're going to get.

5.
No, I was serious. You should have stopped reading after number three. Really.
