Yesterday marked the release of Andy Hull's second solo album, The Eventually Home.A review of the album in Creative Loafing describes the new Right Away, Great Captain! album as "flush with jangling guitars, Beach Boys harmonies and acoustic, pop paeans . . . that are interspersed with bittersweet ballads," and I mostly agree, except for the Beach Boys part. And the pop paeans part, too.
It's a great album musically--Andy's voice is dead-on and full of haunting intensity--but it's also an album with a compelling narrative, and it's this combination of music and storytelling that makes the album stand out amid all the other indie folk rock out there at the moment.
P.S. If you're reading my blog, odds are that you recognize Andy as the lead singer for Manchester Orchestra and a really great guy. You knew that, I'm sure, but just in case you're living in some sort of cave somewhere, or stumbled across my blog through sheer cosmic accident, I thought I'd make sure.

"Sheer cosmic accident.."
I recognize this phrase. :)
It's what I tell kids when they ask why I'm a teacher.
And with Google Analytics, does anything seem accidental?
