Thanksgiving Feast

Well, after reading Jen's blog about her Thanksgiving cooking, I thought it might be worthwhile to make something of a record here of our gustatory activities today.

Here's what we've spent the better part of the day cooking and eating:
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Green bean casserole
  • Mashed potatoes with gravy
  • Broccoli pie (this was new for us this year, but very tasty)
  • Asparagus (sans lemon)
  • Potato stuffing (the old family recipe that I keep working on each holiday)
  • Cranberry-orange relish
  • Cornbread with honey butter
A couple of minor mishaps:
  • Hillary didn't know that the orange we bought a couple of days was meant for the cranberry-orange relish, so she ate it. Fortunately, we had some locally-produced orange juice, which substituted nicely.
  • In the spirit of experimentation, I left one of the ingredients on the bottom of the casserole dish when making potato stuffing. Against Melissa's advice. And she was right.
  • The asparagus was supposed to get a squeeze of fresh lemon, but somehow, lemon didn't make it onto the shopping list. Instead, I hit them with some butter, pepper, herbs de provence, and a tiny bit of salt, which turned out pretty good.
Still to come (after all of that leftover food gets put away):
  • Pumpkin roll
  • And a nice cup of coffee (or two)
